If your child requires medicine at school:
We can only administer medicines prescribed by a medical practitioner and you must complete a consent form (available from the office or website)
The National Service Framework for Children 6 recommends that a range of options are explored including: prescribers consider the use of medicines which need to be administered only once or twice a day (where appropriate) for children and young people so that they can be taken outside school hours. Because it is possible to avoid administration of medicines in school hours by having 3 evenly spaced doses 8 hours apart in any 24, unless specifically directed by the medical prescriber on the prescribed label, we will not administer medicines that require 3 daily doses.
We will administer prescriptions requiring 4 daily doses.
Medicines must be in original packaging and labelled with your child’s name and dosage instructions.
If your child requires medication during the day, please consider if they are well enough to attend school.
Parents are encouraged to ask the prescriber to prescribe doses which can be taken outside school hours, for example it is to be noted that medicines that need to be taken 3 times a day could be taken in the morning, after school hours and at bedtime.
If you decide you require medicine to be administered more frequently, we are happy for you to administer doses in school yourself.
It is not possible for school staff to administer eye drops.
A medical consent form is to be completed for all medicines given in school, these can be found on the website within 'Documents and Useful Information' or from the school office.
