EYFS Intent

Fenstanton and Hilton Primary School, our Early Years Unit aims to create a learning environment that supports our children’s curiosity, confidence and independence. We believe that this can be achieved regardless of background, circumstance or need, as we strive to adapt learning opportunities to personalise our provision.

The success of our school is underpinned by positive, meaningful relationships, which we develop in the setting with pupils, and through our collaborative work with parents and carers. These partnerships help us to encourage enthusiastic learners, who thrive in our setting and can reach their full potential. We aim for our children to begin their lifelong learning journey by developing a positive attitude to school, be happy, and harness a love of learning.

As a team we use a holistic approach, our knowledge of the children, and the EYFS curriculums to provide an engaging indoor and outdoor learning environment that encourages children to explore, learn through their play, ask questions and challenge themselves on a daily basis. Every child has access to a broad and balanced curriculum, which we adapt to follow personal interest and individual needs.

At Fenstanton and Hilton Primary School,  we follow the Birth to 5 Matters Framework, which leads on to the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. When our children leave the EYFS setting at the end of their Reception year, they are ready for life in Year 1, where their learning and development continues alongside the National Curriculum.
